Abstract
Aerogels are highly porous materials consisting of e.g. silicon, aluminum or zirconium oxide or mixture of oxides. High porosity (> 99%) and internal surface (> 1000 m2g-1) make them useful as catalysts, catalytic substrats, adsorbents, pigments and geling agents. Aerogels can be used as efficent isolation materials in different systems because they cosiderably diminish thermal lossses and improve energy efficieny. Extremely low thermal conductivity (lower than 0.02 W/mK at ambient temperature) makes them promissing isolation material in cooling technology (they enable exchange of CFC''s with ecologically more acceptable compounds). The aim of this project is to gain the knowledge of the preparation and properties of aerogels, which is needed for further advances in aerogel technology production.
