Abstract
Load acceptance capability of a Diesel Engine exhaust driven turbocharger (TC) is very important during the accelaration sequence of a vehicle. There is a substantial lag in the reaction of the TC due to TC rotor mass-inertia and exhaust gas energy distribution. An asynchronous electric motor composed of the original TC rotor and the elestrctric stator as a part of the TC compressor casing could be applied to speed up the TC rotor during the vehicle acceleration period. Information on suitable electromotors with specific dimmensional reqiurements and accelerating capabilities at very high frequencies can not be found in the literature. Besides the use of the injected compressed air during the acceleration period of the engine will also be examined.
