Abstract
Project development and research work had two main goals: establishing a programming environment for implementation of the prognostic index and defining of the maintenance of the future Interned-based prognostic system. Components and routines for multimedia presentation of clinical knowledge are going to be realised, as well as protocols for electronic communication. Intention is to advice experts, researchers and even patients by providing competent professional and other information concerning the disease prognosis and outcomes. The original research plan had changed due to the restrictions in financing. Instead of the PC based prognostic system basing on the selected clinical variables and other data from the patient record system, an Internet-based system was conceptualised. This will not enable customised prognostics, which would be case in the originally outlined system that would be used by the clinicians only. However, Internet communication and multimedia presentation of the data have some great potentials. The knowledge is going to be accessible to a wider range of users, clinicians and patients. Predictive values of the clinical parameters are going to be genuinely described whilst direct and specific answers regarding the predictions and outcomes are going to be mediated trought email and frequently asked questions (FAQ). Maintanace and acceptance in the clinical environment was the subject of consultations and discussions at the Institute of Oncology. A new Internet-based concept of the prognostic index was introduced to the clinicians that positively responded to it.
