Abstract
Intralogistics is proven to be the potential field for lowering business costs, work humanization, and improving environment and resource management, especially from the systemic approach point of view. Intralogistics overhauls are often incited artificially due to the introduction of Standards (environment, quality, business excellence) and, therefore, engulf the changes only from the point of view of the Standard content and locally increased process efficiency. Consequently, this approach embraces the changes only from a specific aspect. The 4th industrial revolution, based on digitization, requires with industry 4.0 transformation of companies in “smart” and “environmentally friendly”. Current approaches to renovation of intralogistical systems, described as purposeful and goal-oriented, thus becomes inappropriate, because they represent window options for "less suitable" or unsustainable solutions. The main project’s goal is to develop the methodology for building an integral model of an intralogistics system for the requirements of production companies of the future. The methodology will enable production companies during the transformation into a smart company simultaneous consideration of more contemporary concepts (Industry 4.0, IoT, Lean, Green, Ergonomics). In this way, they will begin to renovate their intralogistical systems in a systemic and comprehensive manner. Using the methodology, production companies will develop into “smart”, increase productivity, reduce energy consumption, reduce costs, gain new knowledge, arrange for the employees friendly working environment faster and more efficiently and, last but not least, transform their operations in a more environmentally friendly way. The methodology will be tested in a real company environment and in a project built virtual simulation environment. We will build a knowledge base for the digitalization of the production companes according to the Industry 4.0 and sustainable (Green) functioning concept, which will collect all the necessary knowledge in one place. Systematic dissemination of project results will contribute to spreading of methodology use.
Significance for science
The project’s theme is aligned with the priorities of the National Research Programme of the Republic of Slovenia which are particularly promising and given to those areas to strengthen their knowledge, scientific advancement and economic efficiency founded on the values of a humane society, and directly support the rapid development of the leading economic areas.   An original scientific contribution to the development of advanced methodologies for an integral model of transport-warehouse processes based on the concepts of IoT, Industry 4.0, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which will be used, not only in the (co)funding company, but also in other companies which show a particular orientated flexible manufacturing system.   The approach in this applied research project is new and connects the understanding of modern concepts such as the IoT, Industry 4.0, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the context of the proposed methodology.   In the scientific papers in the field of Intralogistics: There is no trace of the frequent use of systemic thinking; In addition, the efficiency does not include “Green” and “Health at Work” concepts; Direction into digitization of Logistics is not widespread; Methodology as the standard passage into the industry 4.0 and the compatibility between the components of the production environment and members of the supply chain does not exist. The approach presented in this project is new, since the systemic thinking theory will be used. In addition to efficiency the “Green” and a “Health at Work” concepts will be included, with which we will influence acceleration of the digitalization of intralogistics systems and, thus, propose a methodology as the standard passage into the industry 4.0 and the compatibility between the components of the production environment and supply chain members.   In addition to the general emphasis on the efficiency and productivity, attention will also be paid to the care for the environment, which has so far been proved as the deficiency of most scientific papers on intralogistical systems.   The methodology will open new research questions in the field of comprehensive and integrated introduction of modern concepts such as: The IoT, industry 4.0, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Green and Ergonomic solutions in intralogistical systems of manufacturing companies.
Significance for the country
Based on the results of the project, we expect that the methodology, which will be developed in the context of the applied research project, can be used as such in most of the manufacturing companies. The result of applying the methodology will be smart intralogistical systems of manufacturing companies.   The effects of the smart intralogistical system for the economy and society are as follows: Shortening the length of Logistics` activities which do not add value to the product, thereby increasing productivity and competitiveness; Through shortening of Logistics` activity, the application of advanced technology and the selection of environmentally friendly solutions of intralogistics systems, the energy consumption will be reduced. Reduced energy consumption is, from a social aspect, a good, rational and environmentally friendly solution; Increased productivity and lower energy consumption will reduce the cost per unit of output; Due to digitization of the intralogistical system and the use of technologically advanced equipment, increased productivity and improved competitiveness of enterprises will lead to  new employment; Employees in manufacturing companies will, based on the application of the methodology, gain new competences in the field of Intralogistics and modern concepts, such as the IoT, Industry 4.0, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and, thus, become more motivated, confident and also more competitive in the labour market; With the analysis and reconstruction of jobs and the digitization of works in Intralogistics, working conditions of employees will be improved; Due to the digitization of business processes, focusing on intralogistical processes, companies will be connected in the supply chain easier and faster; The optimization process will also reduce the amount of waste generated per unit of output. The project for building the methodology of building an integral model of transport-warehouse processes to enhance intralogistics system efficiency will be implemented in the company Štore Steel d.o.o., which will, by using the methodology, transform its intralogistical system into a smart system and will receive all the aforementioned effects.   According to the environmental protection and ecological awareness, the project is in line with the Environmental Policy of the Republic of Slovenia and with the requirements of the ISO 14001 norm.   We are confident that the project will, in addition to achieving economic effects, contribute also to a higher level of social and economic situation in the Republic of Slovenia.
