Abstract
In the research program which is continuation of the program Slovene language, literature and teaching from years 2012-2015 with the addition Slovene language and literature in Danube region we shall research the role and significance of Slovene language, literature in the area determined by EU strategy for Danube region i.e. in intercultural space. It formed by regional contacts of Slovene language with other Slavic and Non-Slavic languages. We shall present position of Slovene language in this region (diachronic and synchronic researches) and by doing so determine significance of national languages, literatures and cultures in EU. Slovene language shall be researched in different communication positions, we shall deal with lexicology, dialectology, word-formation and phraseology. In our focus shall be 1) language history 2) language in contact and in conflict 3) language of different interest groups 4) monolingualism, bilingualism, multilingualism 5) relation between literary language and everyday usage 6) language planning 7) interlingual, multicultural and intercultural contacts in field of literature 8) significance of national language and literature in global world. Literary science researches shall deal with phenomena of interculturality in Slovene literature. They shall be founded on theory of interculturality, identity and intercultural (Hofmann 2006, Zima 1992), on theory of cultural memory (J. Assmann 1988, Juvan 2006) and stereotypes and imagology (Fischer 1987, Smolej 2012). They shall be focused on historical phenomena of interculturlity in 19th and 20th century, such as a) on Slovene-Austrian (German) biculturality, on images of culturally alien and on b) individual images of foreign cultures in Slovene autobiography, memoir and travel prose in 19th and 20th century. Above all they shall be dedicated to Slovene-German interculturality which can be observed in Austria. It consists of literary texts by autochthonous Carinthia Slovenes, as well as others who write in Slovene, but have moved to Austria for personal or political reasons. Some of them are of Slovene origin but are writing in German and until recently have been considered as German/Austrian writers. The analysis of Slovene elements in their literary works shall provide interesting results. Other authors transcend form Slovene, which is their mother tongue to German language. We shall expend our research on forms of two- and multiculturality in contemporary Slovene literature. This research shall present that the so called national literature is not only literature of national language. The essayistic research shall continue with the emphasis on national topics, especially after 1990. We shall also be interested in change of cultural paradigms through critical reading of travel discourse and contemporary Slovene short prose. Research program in field of didactic shall be directed in study of inculturation process (recognition process of individual’s identity within the frame of national identity) and multicultural education in the education process.
Significance for science
In European economic sphere we cannot imagine a successful economic growth without an excellent science and research. Slovene researchers possess higher degree of scientific excellence compared to other scientists in the world, precisely in the field of Slovene language, literature and culture research, i.e. in field of our national science. Research and existential interest of Slovenia must be supportive and encouraging of such research, Slovene language researchers are especially devoted to such research and continuously argue that scientific excellence should be developed also in other science fields using national language. Our research program is aimed to analyze and evaluate the significance of Slovene language, literature and culture in European Union. It shall also emphasize significance of incorporating inter-cultural connections to Slovene national linguistic, literary and didactic science. Our researches shall bring now views on history and development of Slovene literary language and participate in recognition that Slovenia should carefully plan the position of languages on nationally mixed areas.  At the same time Slovenia should perform active language policy role in other country’s areas with Slovene population. Researches should reinforce knowledge that our national community is obliged to contribute to the treasure of global linguistic and literary-science its latest knowledge on language and literature, and with the special attention consider contacts, interculturality and multiculturality in the Slovene language and literature.
Significance for the country
Slovene language, literature and culture are the most important elements of the recognition of the Slovene national identity, awareness self-confidence. It is important for Slovene cultural development to enhance Slovene linguistic influence in Danube region as well as in broader EU. Slovene Law on the Slovene language could be among other a good starting point for stimulation of multilinguality and learning of neighboring languages, Resolution on language planning could become the most agreeable model for solving linguistic issues. Republic of Slovenia shall not allow that European language policy become similar to circumstances in ex-Yugoslavia due to globalization and "simplifying” of communication. Slovene language and culture significantly participate in formation of the image of European multiculturality. This has an enormous influence on promotion of the state, that can be recognized in a global world only by its language and culture. Slovene literature is one among the most important pillars of our cultural heritage. In the most important period of Slovene national development Slovene language was the most exposed element. In that time political and language aspects were always equalized. Research results will be presented to the broad professional and scientific public at the symposia and congresses nationally and abroad, and at the hosted lectures. We also plan to publish special monograph z with presented results. With published scientific and professional articles together it can contribute to promotion of Slovenia. Published articles and books can be used by Slovene as well foreign students abroad, and Slovene diplomatic missions and various cultural institutions.
