Description
AMES is a member of the Ljubljana Technology Park. (Former Technology Park of the “Jožef Stefan" Institute). Up to 1993, AMES was department within the Institute. Originally founded to support the physical experiments, it became more and more application oriented. For more than 15 years it was involved in the development and small series production of various sensors, instruments, automatic stations, airport meteorological systems and monitoring networks for environmental measurements. In January 1993, the department was transformed to the independent company.
AMES develops different meteorological sensors (digital wind sensors, ombrometers, temperature probes), instruments (various types of anemometers, gamma-radiation meters), microcomputer controlled automatic stations and complete computerized measuring systems. Additional activities are development of radiological probes, instruments and systems. At the moment, more than 60 automatic stations, 5 airport meteorological systems and several complex environmental monitoring networks, developed and built by AMES, are in the continuous operation.
Part of the company's work is dedicated to the development of customer - tailored monitoring systems, such as information systems for the thermal and nuclear power plants. Communication routines and data quality controls, implemented in software of these systems enable long-term percentage of quality data of more than 95% (experiences from the several existing systems).
AMES is closely connected to the parent Experimental Physics Department of the "J. Stefan" Institute through the exchange of researches on the common projects, education of the young researchers, and transfer of R&D results into the production. Recently, research work in AMES is focused on the wind field-reconstruction, diffusion and prediction modeling of air pollution. For the prediction modeling, an innovative neural-network approach is used.
