Description
The Institute for Research in Materials and Applications was established on November 11, 1992 as a private enterprise for the research and development of building materials and products as well as development technology for their production. At the beginning of 1993 it was accredited as a R&D organisation and listed under number 85 by the Ministry of science and Technology of Republic of Slovenia in their list. The primary function of the Institute is research, development, testing, consulting, and engineering. The Institute specializes in concrete, concrete technology and concrete products. Its research and development is primarily in the field of cement and polymer binded composite materials. The majority of composite materials used today are specialized high performance concretes and repair materials. The Institute also devotes its attention to the questions of recycling harmless industrial and building waste materials. The institute is active also in the development of new measurement methods for determination of some properties of high performance concretes and industrial floors. Regarding consulting and engineering, the Institute provides technical support and solution complex problems in concrete technology. It also provides technical supervision and quality control of materials. Of special interest in this field is the use of the most advanced materials and solutions in the repair and restoration of concrete structures. In this capacity the scientists of the Institute determine the condition of the structure. After determining the causes of damage, they design the repair as well as provide technical supervision of the most delicate stages. Testing of materials is done in the laboratory of the Institute in the field of concretes, mortars, concrete and clay products, aggregates and stones with the modern testing equipment. The laboratory is in the process of acquiring the accreditation by SIST EN 45001. Institute cooperate with many of the construction companies, industry companies and minings in Slovenia and gain practically all his income from this collaboration. Institute present his R&D activities on the international congresses and in the Magazines. Every year exhibits it’s own achievements as well as the achievements of their business partners on the Slovenian concrete colloquiums, organized by Institute from 1994 farther. Institute has close international contacts and is a member of several international technical organisations. It is a Titular member of RILEM – International Union of Testing and Research Laboratories for Materials and Structures (France), member of ACI - American Concrete Institute International (USA), member of ICPIC – International Congress on Polymers in Concrete (USA) and member of CIRIA – Construction Industry Research and Information Association, UK. The members of Institute are members of Slovenian Material Society and are also a members of RILEM technical committees and International advisory board of ICPIC. Institute cooperate permanently also with many of foreign Universities and Institutes.
